Introduction

Set in the not so distant future on the Frozen Moon of Europa and the vast and terrifying oceans below it’s icy shell; inspired by sci-fi and horror classics like Aliens and The Abyss, we explore the challenges and struggles of space exploration and the horrors that may lurk in it’s dark unknowns at the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

The Deep is a six-hour sci-fi horror epic.

The feeling of awe and wonder as Lindsey encounters the beings of light or the helpless dread as Bud descends the nearly endless ocean depths in ‘The Abyss’… the claustrophobic terror of Fletcher being swarmed by jellyfish in ‘Sphere’… the adrenaline surging, heart racing panic of catastrophe in ‘Gravity’… the squad camaraderie and intrigue of ‘Aliens’…

Steeped in Mystery, Suspense, and Character, The Deep explores the lengths humanity will go to to survive in the wake of great catastrophe and delves into the human drama and calamity of the discovery that life on Europa may be directly linked to our own existence.

Tone

The Deep is a dark odyssey of exploration and impossible discovery that suggests the near future and the ancient past may be irrevocably tied together. Set at the intersection of scientific possibility and the infinite horrors of the imagination, we delve into the depths of human courage and determination in the face of unspeakable danger and explore catastrophe as a life-shaping force.

As The Deep is set in the tail end of this century, the show will feature many futuristic details extrapolated from current technology and backed by scientific plausibility (High-Speed Space travel, Holograms, and interactive holographic displays, innovations in state of the art vehicles and space/dive suits, high tech tools and weapons, etc). These details will support the main story and the characters’ journey through it, but not overwhelm for the sake of blockbuster science fiction.

It will have visual styles of “The Abyss”, “Moon” and “Dark”

Closing Info

Over the course of the first season and greater series, they’ll encounter unforgiving environments, violent and intelligent tentacled creatures, carnivorous sea life, fluctuations in gravity, impossible alien structures, and ripples in space and time itself. As they struggle to survive and peel back the mysteries surrounding Europa, they discover their fate and Europa itself may be tied to our very existence as we know it.

The Deep will carry a closed 3 season story arc, but each season will be structured like a film with a definitive beginning, middle, and end to its piece of the greater story. There will be no loose ends after the series finale. The ensemble cast of characters will complete their individual story arcs, some spanning the entire series, but many will complete their arc by the end of the first season. The main series leads, featuring a primarily female-driven cast in Adler, Gage, Bridger, and Kelley, span the entire series allowing us the opportunity to attract rising stars like Ana de Armas, Zazie Beetz, and Maya Hawke or bigger name film actors like Ruth Negga, Anne Hathaway, or Emily Blunt to captain the series.

Our alien sea creatures will be the worst versions of sea life imaginable- untouched for thousands of years and uniquely suited to the darkness of the deep- they’ll start mostly hidden, lurking in the darkness, providing us quick glimpses that inspire wonder and terror all at once. . .  Their designs will take inspiration from iconic movie monster masters like Tom Woodruff Jr. and Alec Gillis, H.R. Giger, Stan Winston, Guillermo Del Toro and Ben Wanat (Dead Space). These carefully combined elements will bring the final important component of human drama and terror and drama into the forefront as the crew of characters are put through hell.

The Deep will be a cosmic Lovecraftian 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for a new generation.
